Background of the Study

The global shift to remote work, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, has transformed the way organizations operate. While remote work offers flexibility and increased productivity, it also exposes organizations to significant security risks. Cybercriminals are increasingly targeting remote workers with sophisticated attacks, including phishing, malware, and ransomware. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), which oversees the regulation of communications in Nigeria, is no exception to these challenges.

Quantum computing, with its potential to solve complex problems much faster than classical computers, could revolutionize cybersecurity. Quantum computing can be used to develop advanced encryption methods, enhance threat detection systems, and strengthen remote work security protocols. This study explores the adoption of quantum computing in enhancing remote work security at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and investigates how this emerging technology can address current cybersecurity challenges faced by remote workers.

Statement of the Problem

While remote work has become increasingly common in Nigeria, organizations, including the Nigerian Communications Commission, face significant challenges in securing remote work environments. Traditional cybersecurity methods often struggle to protect sensitive data when accessed remotely or via less secure networks. The potential of quantum computing to improve cybersecurity remains underexplored in the context of remote work in Nigerian institutions. The NCC has yet to adopt quantum computing for securing remote work, and the feasibility and effectiveness of such an adoption are still unknown.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To investigate the current cybersecurity challenges faced by the Nigerian Communications Commission in remote work environments.

  2. To assess the potential of quantum computing in enhancing the security of remote work at the NCC.

  3. To provide recommendations on the adoption of quantum computing technologies for improving remote work security at NCC.

Research Questions

  1. What are the current cybersecurity challenges faced by the Nigerian Communications Commission in securing remote work?

  2. How can quantum computing enhance the security of remote work environments at the NCC?

  3. What are the barriers to adopting quantum computing technologies for remote work security in Nigerian institutions?

Significance of the Study

This study is significant as it explores how quantum computing can address the pressing cybersecurity concerns related to remote work at NCC. The findings could lead to a stronger, more resilient security infrastructure for remote workers in the commission, potentially improving the overall cybersecurity posture of Nigerian regulatory bodies.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on the Nigerian Communications Commission and its remote work security challenges. The scope will be limited to evaluating the potential of quantum computing to enhance cybersecurity for remote workers, and the limitations may include the current technological limitations and readiness for quantum computing adoption in Nigeria.

Definitions of Terms

  1. Remote Work Security: The protection of digital assets and communications for employees working outside the traditional office environment.

  2. Quantum Computing: A type of computing that uses quantum-mechanical phenomena to perform computations that are not feasible with classical computers.

  3. Cybersecurity: The practice of protecting computers, networks, and data from unauthorized access or attacks.
